The summer 2020 anime adaptation of the light novel series Maō Gakuin no Futekigōsha is localized as The Misfit of Demon King Academy and it wrapped up back at the end of September 2020 with thirteen episodes. Back in March 2021 a second season was announced and last month we learned of it being planned for a 2023 debut.
The second season saw a January 7th, 2023 premiere (and restarted again in July) and with Crunchyroll picking it up and streaming it, they’re also selling it through Amazon. The first two episodes are now available for purchase here for $2.99 each – no full-season pre-purchase is available. They’re only listing the seventh and eighth episodes as the first part was available previously.
The series has Shin Oonuma as the chief director and Masafumi Tamura as the director. Mirai Minato is on board as the assistant director. Jin Tanaka is handling the scripts with Kazuyuki Yamayoshi adapting the character designs. Silver Link is working the animation production. Check out the new key visual below as well.
The anime adaptation saw Tatsuhisa Suzuki as Anos in the first season but will be replaced in the second season. Additional casting includes Tomori Kusunoki as Misha Necron and Yuko Natsuyoshi as Sasha Necron.
For the first season, the opening theme song is “Seikai Fusaikai” by CIVILIAN while the ending theme song is “Hamidashimono” by Tomori Kusunoki. For the second season, Lenny code fiction is performing the opening theme song “SEIEN.”
The novels come from Shu which began in 2017 and has five volumes to date. A manga adaptation launched in the summer of 2018 from Kayaharuka.
