We learned back in May 2022 the good news for fans of the Konosuba: An Explosion On This Wonderful World! light novels as an anime adaptation of this prequel were in the works. December 2022 saw the news that the show was set for a spring 2023 debut and it saw an April 5th, 2023 premiere set for it.
The home video release side in Japan is getting handled by Kadokawa and they’ve set a three-volume release for the twelve-episode series. It’s set to begin on July 26th, 2023 with the DVDs priced at 11,000 yen and the Blu-rays at 13,000 yen. A limited edition for the first volume is priced at 18,000 yen.
With the second set having just arrived, we now have a look at the finalized cover artwork for it as well as the full packaging spread. Check out the details below.
Yujiro Abe will be directing it based on the series composition by Makoto Uezeu. Koichi Kikuta is on board as the character designer with studio Drive handling the animation production. Takaomi Kanasaki is overseeing the project as series director.
The Japanese cast includes Rie Takahashi as Megumin, Aki Toyosaki as Yunuyun, Maria Naganawa as Komekko, Kaori Nazuka as Arue, Miyu Tomita as Funifura, Sayumi Suzushiro as Dodonko, and Shizuka Ishigami as Nerimaki.
Machico is performing “Stay Free” as the opening theme song while series leads Rie Takahashi and Aki Toyosaki will perform “Jump In” as the ending theme song.
The novel series was written by Natsume Akatsuki, and illustrated by Kasumi Morino.
Yen Press currently licenses and releases the light novel series and the manga.
