2 min read

Originally released on DVD back in 2003 (and a decade early on VHS) by AnimEigo, the third feature film for Urusei Yatsura with Remember My Love is getting a little bit of new attention. RetroCrush has dropped a new three-minute clip from the film – a work that doesn’t get much in the way of clips – where everyone just wants a piece of the fun.

Originally released in January 1985, it was directed by Kazuo Yamazaki from a screenplay by Tomoko Konparu. Based on the manga by Rumiko Takahashi, Akemi Takada handled the character designs while Yuji Moriyama served as the chief animation director with Kitty Films handling the animation production.

The Japanese cast includes Fumi Hirano as Lum, Toshio Furukawa as Ataru Moroboshi, Akira Kamiya as Shuutarou Mendou, Kazuko Sugiyama as Ten, Kazuteru Suzuki as Ruu, Masako Sugaya as Oshima the Tanuki, Mitsuo Iwata as Ruu the Magician, Saeko Shimazu as Shinobu Miyake, Shinji Nomura as Kakugari, and Sumi Shimamoto as Lahla.

The English dub was directed by Michael House with a cast that includes Shannon Settlemyre as Lum, Steve Rassin as Ataru, Danielle Sullivan as Shinobu, Justin Geer as Ruu, Margaret Woodfield as Lahla, Mike Langley as Kakugari, Robert Rogan as Shuutarou Mendou, and Shannon Settlemyre as Ten.

Plot Concept: It seems that when Lum was born, a postal screw-up resulted in a witchy friend of the family not getting an invitation to the celebration. The witch put a curse on Lum, that she would never be happy with her True Love, while in the present, a new Amusement Park has been built in Tomobiki, and opening day finds the whole gang sampling its pleasures. At a magic show, however, Ataru gets turned into a large pink hippo-potamus so that Lum try to find the magician who transform her darling.
