Announced in April 2022, a new TV anime adaptation is in the works with the Kaminaki Sekai no Kamisama Katsudo manga getting the nod. The series is set for an April 5th, 2023 premiere on TOKYO MX and Crunchyroll is on board to stream it. The Japanese side is now doing some new updates on the broadcast and simulcast. Yuki Inaba directing it based on the series composition by original manga creator Aoi Akashiro. Kaori Yoshikawa is handling the character designs with Studio Palette is handling the animation production.
The Japanese cast includes Junya Enoki as Yukito Urabe, Akari Kito as Mitama, Kana Hanazawa as Aruraru, Sumire Uesaka as Shiruriru, Sho Fujisawa as Roy, Megumi Ogata as Kullen, Junichi Suwabe as Beltran, Aoi Yūki as Ataru, Rie Takahashi as Dakini, Mikako Komatsu as Rishu, Ami Koshimizu as Gaia, Rin Kurusu as Cyan, and Mutsumi Tamura as Kai.
The opening song is “I Wish” performed by Rin Kurisu while the ending theme song is “Steppin’ Up” as performed by Akari Kito.
Translating as What God Does in a World Without Gods, it comes from Aoi Akashiro and Sonsho Hangetsuban which is serialized in Monthly Hero’s magazine. It began in 2019 and has five volumes out as of the announcement. It does not have an English release.
Plot Concept: As heir to a cult leader, Yukito centers his life around the mysterious goddess Mitama. But everything changes after he’s killed during a ritual gone wrong. To his surprise, Yukito is reborn into a world with no concept of god! And in this world, life and death are decided by the Imperial State.
