Originally serialized in Comic Bavel from the May 2023 installment, This is Your Oasis is a twenty-page story from creator Kohri, who just under a dozen other works on the service. This marked my latest experience with this particular creator, obviously, as I enjoyed the first couple of chapters I tried and am now checking out things that I missed in their catalog. This one also drew some attention with the tags that it has and their small back catalog of things to read makes it easy so that I can have more to check out but not be overwhelmed by their catalog. The preview image had something that played to the wholesome side as well and that’s always fun to watch unfold.

The setup behind this is that we’re introduced to Adachi, a young man who just moved to a new area recently for a job. To his luck, there’s a stylist nearby and he’s gone every month since discovering it because he has a crush on the woman who works there, Sakura. He’s had good experiences there but it’s mostly just to be close to her for even a bit. And it’s become an important thing amid his job getting worse and worse with longer and longer unpaid hours. He’s turning into a shell of his former self to some degree and we see that really taking a toll on him. So when he’s there for his latest visit, he’s happy and upbeat but Sakura can see the way he’s just not fully himself. Which is why she takes extra care of him in things like washing his hair, using a hot towel, and shaving his face because she ses the way it relaxes him.

It relaxes him so much that while leaning back in the chair he gets aroused. Which certainly startles her and he’s apologetic, but she just turns and takes that as something else to be served. It takes a little bit to get to it but the two reveal their feelings for each other and she makes it clear that she’s never done anything like this with anyone else before. There are some cute character moments to be had throughout this but the real fun is in the creativity of the two using the spinning chait and how it leans back while also getting some fun banter about what’s shaven and what isn’t. His confession mid-encounter is a lot of fun to watch play out as it just cements that they’re both on the same page and kind of silly, and Sakura’s just so well-illustrated and designed here that there’s a great lightness and sense of fun about her as it all plays out, making it a thoroughly smile-inducing chapter.

In Summary
You never know what you’re going to get with these things even with all the best tags in the world out there. This story just clicked so well as a great way to showcase an amusing meet-cute and the discovery of something adorable. It’s just light and fun in all the right ways and made for a sequence of events where you like both characters a good bit, really adore Sakura’s design, and just the hugely positive elements of it all. It’s a chapter that will definitely make you smile if you’re still able to enjoy vanilla-style material.
