A new anime project is in our future, with the June 2022 announcement that the manga series Oshi no Ko is getting an adaptation. The property has been quiet since the announcement but now the team behind it has confirmed a 2023 debut for it and that the first episode will clock in at ninety minutes. The series was picked up by HIDIVE previously and it was recently set for a spring 2023 premiere in April.

With the series getting an April 12th, 2023 premiere in Japan recently, interest in the project is at a very big high. And knowing that, the official site has now put out the second piece that comes with an eight-minute behind-the-scenes piece with a focus on the production as it talks to the staff about the challenges of a 90-minute episode and more. And knowing the overseas interest, they’ve also provided it with English subtitles.

Previous installments:

The project will be directed by Daisuke Hiramaki and Chao Nekotomi with Jin Tanaka handling the series composition. Kanna Hirayama is handling the character designs with Doga Kobo working on the animation production.

The Japanese cast includes:

  • Rie Takahashi as Ai
  • Takeo Ōtsuka as Aqua
  • Yurie Igoma as Ruby
  • Kent Itō as Gorō
  • Tomoyo Takayanagi as Sarina
  • Yumi Uchiyama as Young Aqua
  • Megumi Han as Kana Arima

The series features the opening theme song “Idol” from YOASOBI.

The manga from Akasaka and Yokoyari began in April 2020 with an English adaptation released by MANGA Plus. There are eight volumes out as of this month in Japan.

Check out the official site and Twitter.

Plot Concept: The series follows Gorō, a doctor who coincidentally handles the childbirth of his favorite idol Ai Hoshino, who took a hiatus from the entertainment industry to give birth to her twin babies. However, just before Ai gives birth, Gorō dies from an accident, but is reborn as one of Ai’s children, Aquamarine Hoshino, with his memories fully intact.
