Known as the Silo series, the first novel from it with Wool by Hugh Howey previously received the green light from Apple TV+ in the spring of 2021. The project has been going through the rounds for a decade as both 20th Century Fox and AMC attempted to bring it to fruition. As we talked about last year as it entered production, the project saw a series order from Apple TV that will work from material from the three novels as well as some of the short stories and graphic novel that was also produced.
Earlier this year, Apple TV+ has dropped the first trailer for it under its formal name of Silo with a May 5th, 2023 premiere scheduled for it. With that coming up at the end of next week, they’ve now rolled out the opening sequence to it which will definitely scratch the itch of a certain kind of viewer – myself included. Music for the series is handled by Atli Örvarsson.
With AMC Studios producing it, the show has writer Graham Yost working on it and is directed Morten Tyldum. With Yost coming from the critically acclaimed Justified and Tyldum working on films like The Imitation Game as well as the Apple TV+ series Defending Jacob, they definitely know how to work in this ecosphere.
The cast includes Rebecca Ferguson as Juliette, Tim Robbins as Bernard, Rashida Jones as Allison, David Oyelowo as Holston, Common as Sims, Harriet Walter as Martha Walker, Avi Nash as Lukas Kyle, Chinaza Uche as Paul Billings, Rick Gomez as Patrick Kennedy, Henry Garrett as Douglas Trumbull, Iain Glen as Dr. Pete Nichols, Will Merrick as Danny, Ferdinand Kingsley as George Wilkins, Shane McRae as Knox, and Lee Drage as Franky Brown.
TV Plot Concept: In a ruined and toxic future, thousands live in a giant silo deep underground. After its sheriff breaks a cardinal rule and residents die mysteriously, engineer Juliette (Rebecca Ferguson) starts to uncover shocking secrets and the truth about the silo.
Book Plot Concept: The first book in the acclaimed, New York Times best-selling trilogy, Wool is the story of mankind clawing for survival. The world outside has grown toxic, the view of it limited, talk of it forbidden. The remnants of humanity live underground in a single silo. But there are always those who hope, who dream. These are the dangerous people, the residents who infect others with their optimism. Their punishment is simple. They are given the very thing they want: They are allowed to go outside.
After the previous sheriff leaves the silo in a terrifying ritual, Juliette, a mechanic from the down deep, is suddenly and inexplicably promoted to the head of law enforcement. With newfound power and with little regard for the customs she is supposed to abide by, Juliette uncovers hints of a sinister conspiracy. Tugging this thread may uncover the truth … or it could kill every last human alive.
