The revival of Sorcerous Stabber Orphen getting the nod is still a surprise but one of the welcome ones. The second season of the show went under the title of Sorcerous Stabber Orphen: Battle of Kimluck and it got underway on January 20th, 2021. We learned last fall that a third season was announced for a January 2023 debut as it adapts the Urban Rama arc from the light novel series.

With the show making a January 18th, 2023 premiere for it, we learned then that it’s being set as a two-cour event that will be consecutive, meaning that it will pick up its second half in April 2023. That second part is going under the title of Sanctuary Arc and with the release of a new promo it’s been set for an April 12th, 2023 premiere. With that coming up next week, the official site has now dropped a ney promotional video to get fans excited for what’s to come.

Takayuki Hamana is directing it based on the scripts from Kenji Konuta, who is replacing Reiko Yoshida. Yoko Kikuchi and Rio are handling the character designs with Studio DEEN handling the animation production.

Showtaro Moribuko returned to voice the character of Orphen. Morikubo was twenty-four at the time back when the anime adaptation came out in 1998. The Japanese cast also includes Rumi Okubo as the heroine Cleao, Yūsuke Kobayashi as Majic, Marie Mizuno as Volkan, Mai Fuchigami as Dortin, Daisuke Namikawa as Childman, Yōko Hikasa as Azalie, Shizuka Itou as Letitia, Taito Ban as Hardia, Rikuya Yasuda as Komikuron, Tomoaki Maeno as Forte, Kenjiro Tsuda as Wall Kallen, Hiroyuki Yoshino as Hydrant, Nobuhiko Okamoto as Swain, Akari Kito as Madchen Amick, Taiten Kusunoki as Damian and Aina Aiba as Winona.

The property started as a series of light novels from Yoshinobu Akita with artwork by Yuuya Kusaka that kicked off in 1994 and finished in 2003 with twenty volumes. A manga was published alongside it that ran for six volumes. Two seasons of anime for a total of forty-seven episodes were also produced and released domestically by ADV Films. Sentai Filmworks recently released the anime (which can be streamed here) while the light novels were never licensed – though hopefully, that might change now.

Plot Concept: A sorcerer who was once the top student of the famous Tower of Fang, now spends his time chasing around his hopeless clients as a moneylender, at least until his client comes up with a plan to make money: marriage fraud. Unwillingly being dragged in to the plan, Orphen encounters a monster who has long been his goal since the day he left the Tower of Fang. Between those who seek to kill the monster and Orphen, giving everything to protect the monster, his lousy but peaceful days end. Trying to turn back his sister, Azalie, back to her true form leads to many more mysteries and the key to the secret to the world.
