While we’ve had a number of Gundam projects over the past several years, we haven’t had a proper long-form TV series since the Iron-Blooded Orphans show back in 2015. Sunrise announced in the fall of 2021 that they’re looking to make 2022 the year of new projects and they announced the Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury series. The first cour of the show saw an October 2nd, 2022 premiere coming after the prologue that we had on September 25th while the second cour is set for an April 2022 debut.
The show is getting eight volumes total for its twenty-four-episode run plus the prologue which begins on March 24th, 2023 and finishes on December 22nd, 2023. The Blu-ray releases are priced at 7,800 yen each except for the first volume priced at 8,800 yen due to the prologue inclusion. The DVDs are priced at 4,800 yen and are regular editions where as the Blu-rays are listed as limited editions.
With the second set due out at the end of the month, we now have a look at the cover artwork that’s finalized with text as opposed to just the blank white background flat version we had already. Check the full schedule below.
Hiroshi Kobayashi directed it with Ryo Ando assisting, working from the script by Ichiro Okouchi. Mogumo worked on the original designs with Marie Tagashira, Shuri Toida, and Hirotoshi Takaya adapting them for the show. Sunrise is handling the adaptation as expected.
