‘The Marvels’ Heads To November 2023

2 min read
Time to start moving forward with the sequel

Plans for the sequel to Captain Marvel have been moving along for awhile with it originally set for a November 11th, 2022 release date with the new name of The Marvels. Of course, then the pandemic changed a lot of scheduling and planning along the way and the film eventually ended up with a February 17th, 2023 release date. With it beginning production in August 2021, Marvel Studios we learned in April 2022 that the film was being moved to a July 28th, 2023 debut after we saw the third Ant-Man film move up. Now, the film is getting a bump again to o a November 10th, 2023 release which is trying to align it to what Black Panther: Wakanda Forever did last year. Spacing out projects seems to be something the studio is doing more of and with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 coming up in May, a little more of a window may help to ease some of those “constantness” claims some make.

A new poster was also released:

The film, directed by Nia DaCosta based on the screenplay by Megan McDonnell, is going to be an interesting one as it’s pulling together a few pieces as it comes after the Ms. Marvel series as well as tying in Teyonah Paris from WandaVision.

The cast for the film includes:

  • Brie Larson as Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel
  • Teyonah Paris as Monica Rambeau
  • Iman Vellani as Kamala Kahn / Ms. Marvel
  • Zawe Ashton joined previously to play the villain in the film.
  • Park Seo-joon

The first Captain Marvel film saw Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck tackling this project as co-directors, which was written by Inside Out co-writer Meg LaFauve with Guardians of the Galaxy writer Nicole Perlman. The cast Brie Larson as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury with Jude Law, Gemma Chan, and Ben Mendelsohn.

Property Concept: Captain Marvel is an extraterrestrial Kree warrior who finds herself caught in the middle of an intergalactic battle between her people and the Skrulls. Living on Earth in 1995, she keeps having recurring memories of another life as U.S. Air Force pilot Carol Danvers. With help from Nick Fury, Captain Marvel tries to uncover the secrets of her past while harnessing her special superpowers to end the war with the evil Skrulls.
