2023 is looking to shape up with some interesting projects already and we learned last year that a new Trigun anime adaptation is in the works with Trigun Stampede. The new series, which Crunchyroll quickly announced their pickup of, saw a worldwide simulcast through Crunchyroll. With the series seeing a January 7th, 2023 debut, the English dub is running as well and now Crunchyroll has revealed a new piece of casting news. With the next episode bringing in the infamous Nicholas D. Wolfwood to this incarnation, it’s been revealed that David Matranga will be portraying him in the dub.

The English dub is directed by Jeremy Inman with Dallas Reid as the assistant ADR director as the work from the scripts by Macy Anne Johnson. The English cast includes Johnny Yong Bosch as Vash, Kristen McGuire as Vash (Young), Austin Tindle as Knives, Megan Shipman as Knives (Young), Sarah Roach as Meryl, Ben Bryant as Roberto, Lydia Mackay as Rosa, and Emily Fajardo as Rem.

Additional voices include Jason Crawford Jordan, Van Barr Jr., Dusty Feeney, Marianne Bray, Nicholas Markgraf, Nazeeh Tarsha, Matthew David Rudd, Brian Holder, Kristian Eros, and Joe Cucinotti.

The series is available to subscribers in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, CIS, the Philippines, Singapore, India, Pakistan, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepa, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.

With studio Orange handling it, Kenji Mutou is directing it with Kouji Tajima on board as the concept designer and the new character designer for it.

The Japanese cast includes:

  • Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Vash the Stampede
  • Junya Ikeda as Knives Millions
  • Tomoyo Kurosawa as Young Vash
  • Yumiri Hanamori as Young Knives
  • Maaya Sakamoto as Rem Saverem
  • Sakura Andou as Meryl Stryfe
  • Yoshimasa Hosoya as Nicholas D. Wolfwood
  • Kenji Matsuda as Roberto De Niro
  • Kouki Uchiyama as Legato Bluesummers
  • TARAKO as Zazie the Beast
  • Ryusei Nakao as William Conrad

The opening theme song is from Kvi Baba with “TOMBI” while the ending theme is “Hoshi no Kuzu a” as performed by Salyu.

Based on the manga by Yasuhiro Nightow, the 1998 TV series was directed by Satoshi Nishimura based on the series composition by Yousuke Kuroda. Yakahiro Yoshimatsu handled the character designs and Madhouse handled the animation production. It saw release originally through Pioneer and ended up with Funimation over time and was added to Crunchyroll for streaming in May 2022.

Plot Concept: Vash the Stampede is a gunman on the run with a 60 billion double dollar bounty on his head which has made it difficult for him to go anywhere without being chased and shot at. Every town he ever visits ends up being destroyed because of his pursuers, but miraculously no one ever gets killed. Meryl and Milly are two insurance agents that have been sent to find Vash the Stampede and keep him under surveillance so no more damage is caused. Meryl, who leads the pair, refuses to believe that the man they have met can possibly be the legendary gunman. This spikey-haired, gangly, young man is extremely friendly, a pacifist, hates blood and suicide, absolutely loves donuts, and is a dork and a crybaby (far from a notorious outlaw). But there is more to Vash and his past than meets the eye.
