The winter 2020 anime adaptation based on the light novel series of the same name with Itai no wa Iya nano de Bōgyoryoku ni Kyokufuri Shitai to Omoimasu, which translates to All points are divided to VIT because a painful one isn’t liked, came out as BOFURI. A second season was announced early in 2021 with plans for a late 2022 debut but with the various things going on with COVID and other delays, it’s no surprise that the show didn’t make it for the fall season.

With the series set for a January 2023 debut and the first season getting a rebroadcast in Japan, the official site has updated to reveal its broadcast plans. While no date is set just yet, we’ve gotten the usual slate of broadcast stations which is, weirdly enough, reassuring at this point as we’ve seen so many shows get their second season and end up as streaming exclusives for a season before getting broadcast runs.

Shin Oonuma is directing with Mirai Minato based on the series composition by Fumihiko Shimo. Kazuya Hirata is handling the character designs with Silver Link working on the animation production.

The cast includes Kaede Hondo as Maple, Ruriko Noguchi on board to play Sally, and Satomi Arai as Kanade. The cast also includes Saori Hayami as Kasumi, Ai Kakuma as May, Nanaka Suwa as Yui, Noriaki Sugiyama as Kuromu, and Satomi Satou as Iz.

The original work from Yuumikan began in 2016 and has seven volumes in print as of the first season premiere and fourteen volumes out as of fall 2022. A manga spinoff was launched in the spring of 2018 in Comp Ace by Jiro Oimoto.

The first season of the series features the opening sequence with the song “Kyuukoku Unbalance” by Afilia Saga as well as the closing song with “Play the World” by Riko Sasaki. For the second season, it features Junjo no Afilia performing the opening theme song “Kono Tate ni, Kakuremasu” while FRAM is handling the ending theme song with “Step for Joy” for it.

Plot Concept: The series focuses on Kaede Honjō, who is invited by her friend Risa Shiramine to play a virtual reality MMO game with her. While Kaede doesn’t dislike games, what she really, truly dislikes is being in pain. She creates a character named Maple, and decides to put all her points in VIT to minimize pain. As a result, she moves slowly, can’t use magic, and even a rabbit can get the best of her. But as it turns out, she acquires a skill known as “Absolute Defense” as a result of her pumping points into VIT, as well as a “Counter Skill” that works against special moves. Now, with her ability to nullify all damage, she goes on adventures.
