NBCU Japan Streams ‘Destiny of the Shrine Maiden’ Anime Theme Songs

NBC Universal Japan is continuing to work through their Anime x Music celebration of thirty years of songs for anime shows. The latest one to get attention is the 2004 series Kannazuki no Miko, better known domestically as Destiny of the Shrine Maiden. Originally released by Geneon Entertainment and then seeing a rescue through Sentai Filmworks, the theme songs below are “Re-sublimity” by KOTOKO for the opening as well as the ending which is “Agony” by KOTOKO.

Based on the manga by Kaishaku, the 2004 TV anime series was directed by Tetsuya Yanagisawa from the series composition by Sumio Uetake. Maki Fujii handled the character designs with TNK handling the animation production.

The Japanese cast includes Ayako Kawasumi as Chikane Himemiya, Junji Majima as Souma Oogami, and Noriko Shitaya as Himeko Kurusugawa.

The English dub was produced at Bang Zoom! Entertainment with Kirk Thornton as the ADR director. The English cast includes Jennifer Sekiguchi as Himeko, Michelle Ruff as Chikane, Steve Cannon as Soma, Cristina Valenzuela as Misaki, David Keefir as Yukihito, Dorothy Fahn as Reiko, Heather Lee Joelson as Miyako, Julie Ann Taylor as Makoto, Karen Thompson as Izumi, Kate Higgins as Otoha, Kirk Thornton as Girochi, Lex Lang as Kazuki, Liam O’Brien as Tsubasa, Mela Lee as Kyoko, Reba West as Koronoa, and Sandy Fox as Nekoko.

Plot Concept: The highborn Himemiya Chikane is cool and aloof, the perfect young lady of good breeding. Kurusegawa Himeko is devoted to her, and secretly her friend. Their lives are undisturbed in their school, until an ancient evil suddenly rears its head. To combat it, Chikane and Himeko must take on the roles of shrine maidens of the Moon and Sun.
