Seven Seas Entertainment picked up a pretty fun title back in 2018 with the manga Tomo-chan is a Girl! by Fumita Yanagida. We learned during Anime Expo that an anime adaptation is in the works with Crunchyroll announcing it as part of their lineup. The show has now gotten a new update out of Japan that delves into the opening theme song. That piece is set to be performed by Maharajan with the song titled “Kurae! Telepathy.” Check out the announcement:

The series is set for a January 2023 debut with Hitoshi Namba directing it with assistant director Noriko Hashimoto. Megumi Shimizu is serving as the head writer with Shiori Hiraiwa as the character designer. Animation production is being handled by Lay-duce.

The Japanese cast includes:

  • Sally Amaki as Carol Olston for both the Japanese and English dub
  • Rie Takahashi as Tomo Aizawa for the Japanese and Lexi Nieto for the English dub
  • Kaito Ishikawa as Junichiro Kubota
  • Rina Hidaka as Misuzu Gundo
  • Kōhei Amasaki as Kosuke Misaki
  • Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Tatsumi Tanabe

“Tomo-chan is a Girl! has been one of the most-requested titles on our monthly surveys, and it’s easy to see why,” said Seven Seas editor-in-chief Adam Arnold when it was first licensed in 2018.  “It’s funny and relatable, and such a breeze to read. Existing fans and new readers are going to love having this series in print.”

The series began in 2015 in Twi 4 and they’ve been bringing out the property in single-volume editions. It finished in 2019 with eight volumes.

Plot Concept: Boyish high school girl Aizawa Tomo finally manages to tell her childhood friend Jun that she’s got a crush on him. Unfortunately, her confession goes right over his head—he didn’t even realize she was a girl until junior high, and even now, Jun still thinks of her as a bro! How can  Tomo-chan possibly convince him otherwise and win Jun’s heart?
