NBC Universal Japan Streams The ‘NieA_7’ Anime Theme Songs

Discotek Media picked up a pretty great back in 2017 with the acquisition of the Niea_7 anime series. They’ve opted for a DVD/BD combo release on February 27th, 2018 that will use the same materials as the recent Japanese release that was an upscale of the show. Now, the folks at NBC Universal Japan, as part of their 30th-anniversary Anime x Music celebration, have brought out the theme songs for the series for streaming to check out with the main opening, closing, and 13th episode closing as well below.

The series saw a February 27th, 2018 release priced at $39.95. Extras will include the clean opening and closing, live-action clips, and the music videos that we had when it was originally released by Geneon Entertainment.

The series originally aired in the spring of 2000 and was picked up and released in 2001 from Pioneer Entertainment with an English language adaptation done for it. The series was directed by Tomokazu Tokoro and Takuya Sato with Sato also doing the script, storyboards and serving as the animation director. A lot of the folks that worked on Serial Experiments Lain worked on this and it was noteworthy at the time for the character designs by Yoshitoshi ABe.

Plot concept: In the 21st century, aliens have arrived on Earth and live among humans. In sleepy Enohana, the dirt-poor student Chigasaki Mayuko finds herself living together with NieA, a low-caste (“Under Seven”) alien. While Mayuko struggles diligently to make ends meet, NieA seems to be totally unconcerned with the consequences of her actions. As the odd couple throws off the expected sparks, the wrecked alien mothership looms in the background…
