The streaming for Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid wrapped up a while ago but lead into the second series that delivered a lot more fun for fans. Australian distributor Madman Entertainment initially had scheduled a release for the show on Blu-ray – much as they did the first season – with a tentative November 9th, 2022 release date for it. That scheduling was, unfortunately, pulled but we knew it would come around again. Recently, the distributor has set a January 18th, 2022 release for it where it’ll be priced at $64.95 for a two-disc bilingual release of the full season. No extras were currently listed with it but the release has now been formally solicited to retailers, confirming price and date, and they have also revealed the slate of extras:
- New “Miniature Dragon” episodes
- All 13 “Miniature Dragons” streamed episodes
- All 3 “Miniature Dragon” Special Episodes
- “Brought to you by…” Message Background Videos
- Character Promo Videos
- Promo Videos
- Commercials
- Textless Opening & Closing Song
The work comes from Coolkyoushinja with ten volumes to its name so far. The series was directed by Yasuhiro Takemoto based on the series composition from Yuka Yamada and character designs by Miku Kadowaki.
The Japanese cast includes Mutsumi Tamura as Kobayashi, Yūki Kuwahara as Tohru, Maria Naganawa as Kanna, Yūki Takada as Eruma, Minami Takahashi as Rukoa, Emiri Katou as Riko Saikawa, Yuuko Gotou as Georgie Saikawa and Kaori Ishihara as Magatsuchi Shouta.
The opening theme “Aozora no Rhapsody” was performed by fhána while the group Choro-gonzu, which is made up of the voice actresses from the show, performed the ending theme “Ishukan Communication.”
Seven Seas picked up the rights to the series back in December 2015.
Plot concept: Miss Kobayashi is your average office worker who lives a boring life, alone in her small apartment–until she saves the life of a female dragon in distress. The dragon, named Tohru, has the ability to magically transform into an adorable human girl (albeit with horns and a long tail!), who will do anything to pay off her debt of gratitude, whether Miss Kobayashi likes it or not. With a very persistent and amorous dragon as a roommate, nothing comes easy, and Miss Kobayashi’s normal life is about to go off the deep end!
