With a few places to call home over the years both in the US and UK, the old school OVA property Cyber City Oedo 808 saw a new Blu-ray release last year through North American distributor Discotek Media. now, the OVA is getting some new streaming distribution with RetroCrush bringing it out recently in its subtitled form and with the English dub. Now, as RetroCrush looks to draw people in more, they’ve added a new three-minute clip that shows off a sequence where we get some good old-school 80s-influenced cyberpunk aesthetic.
Directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri, the Japanese cast includes Kaneto Shiozawa, Tessyo Genda, and Hiroya Ishimaru.
The recent Blu-ray release had a March 30th, 2021 release date for it where it’ll be priced at $29.95. It doesn’t make it sound like it’s a direct port of the UK release but it is going to use some of the same things. The set is expected to include the Japanese commentary tracks with more extras from that realm. Additionally, it’ll include the Manga UK dub in addition to the US dub and the new documentary that was produced for it by Anime Limited.

Plot Concept: The year is 2808. The place: Oedo, a cybernetic megalopolis of the future where the dreams of a brighter tomorrow are drowning in a tide of violence, vice, and villainy. Driven to breaking point, the forces of law and order are left with no choice but to use the very criminals they capture to help hunt their own kind.
Enter hardened cybercriminals Sengoku, Gogul, and Benten. Presented by police chief Hasegawa with a stark choice, they must decide to either rot in jail for the rest of their lives, or join a special force of the Cyber Police and possibly get one more chance at freedom. With their less than subtle blend of extreme violence and excessive swearing, some hard justice is coming to Oedo.
With each criminal apprehended and each successful mission completed, the state will agree to reduce their sentences. But with each of them serving a 300-year stretch, and Hasegawa keeping them in line with explosive collars, will they survive long enough to be free men once again?
