While we saw the overall month explored before with the general mix of graphic novels for the month of August 2022, ICv2 has now broken out the manga to its own category to explore and see how things went down. While the world of manga struggles with getting reprints out there for older volumes, especially for smaller series, this month also shows a rare change in that Viz dominates but we do get three slots that go to other publishers.
We’ve seen the natural cooling down of the Spy x Family property since the anime is in a skip-season mode until it comes back in the fall so it’s not charting as high. What drives manga are the new volumes of popular series and that creates the long tail of drawing in more people, hence early volumes charting regularly. Jujutsu Kaisen gets the top spot this month with a new volume and that brings in more sales. Similarly, we see Chainsaw Man doing well and lot of popular properties with anime adaptations.
When it comes to non-Viz Media books, Square Enix again holds onto a spot with My Dress-Up Darling while Yen Press delivers with two volumes of Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun.
