‘Gungrave’ Anime Dub Gets Hulu Distribution

2 min read

Gungrave Crunchyroll HeaderOne of my favorite series from years ago has arrived on Hulu once again for streaming thanks to the partnership with Funimation in the form of Gungrave. The complete series is now available to viewers on the service in its English dubbed form, though availability is a bit limited owing to it being an acquired license as it’s open to members in the US, Canada, and South Africa.

Originally airing in 2003, the series was directed by Toshiyuki Tsuru and based on the series composition by Yousuke Kuroda. Based on the original work by Yasuhiro Nightow, Masanori Shino handled the character designs and Madhouse the animation production.

The Japanese cast includes Tomokazu Seki as Brandon Heat / Beyond the Grave, Tsutomu Isobe as Harry MacDowel, Chafurin as Bob Poundmax, Fumihiko Tachiki as Bunji Kugashira, Iemasa Kayumi as Big Daddy, Kikuko Inoue as Maria Asagi, Kumi Sakuma as Mika Asagi, Motomu Kiyokawa as Dr. Tokioka “Dr. T”, Ryūzaburō Ōtomo as Bear Walken, and Takehito Koyasu as Balladbird Lee.

The English dub was directed by Eric P. Sherman at Bang Zoom! Entertainment with a cast that includes Abe Lasser as Harry MacDowel, Ron Allen as Brandon Heat/Beyond the Grave, Andrew Watton as Balladbird Lee, John Daniels as Bear Walken, Kay Jensen as Mika Asagi, Lex Lang as Bunji Kugashira, Melvin Katt as Bob Poundmax, Michael McConnohie as Big Daddy, Michelle Ruff as Maria Asagi, Midge Mayes as Sherry Walken, and William Frederick as Dr. Tokioka.

Plot Concept: Death doesn’t matter to Brandon Heat. Driven by vengeance, he’s back from the grave and bent on crippling Millennion, a massive mafia organization with legions of undead monster enforcers. Armed with his twin handguns—Ceruberus—and a coffin full of heavy weapons, Heat won’t stop until Millennion’s leader—and Brandon’s former best friend—Harry McDowel is destroyed.
