We learned back in January 2021 that another light novel series is on track for an anime adaptation with the announcement of Shinka no Mi ~Shiranai Uchi ni Kachigumi Jinsei~, which translates as The Fruit of Evolution ~Before I Knew It, My Life Had It Made~. The series saw an October 4th, 2021 debut and it has a second season coming for it.

With Crunchyroll confirming their pickup of it over the weekend, the Japanese side has set a January 2023 debut for it and dropped a new promo. Yoshiaki Okumura moves from director to chief director while Shige Fukase comes on board as the new director. Minami Eda is being replaced by Iroha Mizuki and Nobuhide Hayase for the character designs and hotline replacing studio feel for the animation production.

The Japanese cast includes Hiro Shimono as Seiichi Hiiragi, Kana Hanazawa as Saria, Marina Inoue as Artoria Gremm, Tetsu Inada as Gassle Kroot, Yūka Nishio as Eris McClain, Rimi Nishimoto as Lulune, Yoshino Nanjō as Karen Kannazuki, Yōko Hikasa as Louise Balze, Satomi Arai as Hitsuji-san, and Yurika Kubo as Origa Calmeria.

Yoshino Nanjō is on board for the opening theme song “Evolution:” while Poppin’ Party will perform the ending theme song “Moonlight Walk.”

The original light novels from Miku saw their origins online in 2014 and began print versions later that year through Monster Bunko with artwork by U35. The series published its 12th novel in February 2021.

Plot Concept: Seiichi Hiiragi is at the bottom of his school’s social pecking order and he and his entire school are upended when everyone in the school is transported into another world. Seiichi finds himself alone and approached by a gorilla, who instead of attacking him, instead proposes to him. At the moment that Seiichi thinks that “I guess a gorilla is fine too,” they find the Fruit of Evolution, and when they eat it, their lives are suddenly changed once again.
