Content (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
In the face of Delisaster’s overwhelming power, Rayne Ames is on his last leg. Despite Finn’s pleas, Rayne continues to refuse his help. Finn has been protected by his brother his whole life and eventually his inferiority created a schism between them. But with death staring him in the face, Rayne finally reveals why he’s been so standoffish to his brother – in his quest to become a powerful mage, all he’s ever wanted was for Finn to live a normal life. Rayne sought power so that Finn wouldn’t have to follow the same difficulty; so Finn could start a family and live the happy life they were never afforded as children. But this time, Finn won’t stand to merely watch from the sidelines.

Finn doesn’t need to be normal. He doesn’t need to start a family because he has Rayne. And during his time at Easton, he’s made friends and learned valuable lessons. Despite feeling like a burden to his friends and his brother, Finn learned that giving an effort was more than enough. Even if it wasn’t much, extending a helping hand was the right thing to do. For the first time, Rayne acknowledges his brother’s growth, yet still, he heads into what is likely his final battle, alone.

Delisaster and Rayne ready their next attacks, but suddenly a beam of magical energy engulfs the room. Finn’s desperate attempt to save his brother awakens his latent power, as a second line tears through his cheek, he unveils his Secondth Level spell – Butterfly Sanitatem. An angelic figure materializes behind Rayne, showering him in a healing aura. Not only that, Finn’s new ability also channels a surge of magic through Rayne, powering him up significantly as he lands a flurry of attacks on Delisaster. In one of the series’ most cathartic moments, The Ames brothers overcome their differences and fight alongside each other.

In Summary:
“Rayne Ames and the Family of Two” is one of the best character moments in all of Mashle, giving Finn his long overdue time in the spotlight.
