‘Code:Breaker’ Anime Gets Crunchyroll Distribution

2 min read

Codebreaker Hulu HeaderThe slow-roll merger of libraries continues on once again as shows that are on Funimation’s legacy streaming service find their way over to Crunchyroll. The latest one for it is the Code:Breaker anime series which has seen streaming in a few places over the years but has largely gone without any updates about it since around 2016 or so. The show has now been brought over to Crunchyroll’s service in its original Japanese language with English subtitles and the English dub that was produced about a decade ago.

Check out our thoughts on the series here.

The original manga series comes from creator Akimine Kamijyo with the anime adaptation directed by Yasuhiro Irie for studio Kinema Citrus. The manga series began back in 2008 and completed in 2013 with a total of twenty-six volumes.

Directed by Colleen Clinkenbeard, it stars Jackie Ross, Micah Solusod, Jād Saxton, Aaron Roberts, Lydia Mackay, Ben Phillips, David Matranga, Todd Haberkorn, Sonny Strait, Jerry Jewell, Morgan Garrett, Cherami Leigh, Eric Vale, Jessica Cavanagh and J. Michael Tatum.

Plot concept: Rei Ogami doesn’t have a problem with killing. As a Code:Breaker—a super-powered assassin employed by a secret government organization—he works outside of the law, existing in the gray area between right and wrong. When Rei gets an assignment, criminals are cremated in a blaze of blue fire. That is, until a classmate named Sakura witnesses his fatal flames in action and makes it her mission to keep him from killing again.

As Sakura becomes entrenched in Rei’s world of cruelty, mayhem, and violence, the line between good and evil begins to blur. When another Code:Breaker goes rogue and the remaining assassins assemble, murder might be the only way to make things right.
