Originally serialized in Comic Shitsurakuten from the August 2022 installment, Impression is a twenty-two-page story from creator Oosaki, who has just about six other works on the service. This marked my first experience with this particular creator as I was looking through new releases looking for something, anything, that didn’t involve high school characters for a bit in. This one has some tags to it that I like without any of the red flag ones that make me avoid it, so I went in hopeful for a new discovery or at least some artwork to really enjoy of the storytelling doesn’t cut it.

In terms of artwork, yeah, this one got me and I’ll be trying out more of Oosaki’s work. The story for it is a bit more complicated and problematic as we’re introduced to Minoru, a young man who has run away from home and is accosted by some street toughs. He gets saved by Manaka, a young woman who vouches for him when she comes across the incident and brings him back to her place. She’s intent on giving him a little sanctuary while he tries to figure out his plan going forward. You get the sense that she was a runaway herself and lives light and simply, so her offering him her place for a bit as she’s heading out of town soon for a bit makes sense. And he definitely needs some downtime, which she makes sue to give him for a few hours that evening as well as she goes out and he opts to clean the place as a kind of repayment.

Where this goes off the rails but is standard kind of hentai and adult material, is that Minoru crashes and sleeps only to awaken to Manaka naked and riding him. She was considerate enough to put some protection on him but basically is just going through a good time with him. Minoru resists on this and all, though it’s the usual kind of awkward piece that has her essentially coming up with a reason why it’s all good that he ends up agreeing with. That results in several hours of them going through a decent-sized package of protection and really enjoying the situation. For a first-time experience, it’s definitely problematic in all the obvious ways but the fantasy is one that works well in how it unfolds. Manaka has a look that’s not “standard” for a lot of works in the hentai field and it delivers a pretty strong kind of intensity for the two as they enjoy the moment.

In Summary
While I’m not keen on the way the situation came together – there were other ways to do it without it being so bad – the work beyond that is pretty good. I really like Oosaki’s artwork and that will get me to check out more while hoping the storytelling is better. The storytelling is solid overall even if the content of part of it didn’t work for me because we get something that gets us to connect with the characters even while leaving a lot of it up to the imagination. There are certainly things to explore here, and obviously enough room for a sequel that we’ll never get, and that helps to make it feel like part of something larger. And that helps to make the more intimate moments a lot more engaging.
