The summer 2018 anime series Made in Abyss saw its home video release handled by Sentai Filmworks in North America but the streaming side is from HIDIVE. With them also handling the films, we’ve had a good run with the property through them. We learned back in May 2021 that the second TV season saw a July 6th, 2022 debut as Made in Abyss: The Sun Blazes Upon the Golden City.

Kadokawa is handling the home video distribution for the new season and they’ve set the half box set release plan for it. The sets are scheduled for October 26th, 2022 and December 23rd, 2022 with six episodes per set. The DVD sets are priced at 16,000 yen each while the Blu-ray sets are priced at 18,000 yen each.

The first set comes with a 40-page booklet, a storyboard collection, and an end-card piece. On-disc extras include bonus mini animations, a cast commentary, and a staff commentary.

The second set comes with a 40-page booklet, a storyboard collection, and an end-card piece. On-disc extras include the clean theme songs, promos, and commercials along with the cast and staff commentary.

A limited-edition set is also being produced for the second set that’s priced at 21,000 yen. That includes the above while also bringing in a plush toy.

Plot Concept: The enormous cave system, known as the Abyss, is the only unexplored place in the world. Nobody knows how deep down this titanic pit goes. It is inhabited by strange and wondrous creatures and full of mysterious ancient relics whose purposes are unknown to modern man. Generations of bold adventurers have been drawn by the cryptic depths of the Abyss. Over the course of time, those bold enough to explore the dangerous pit came to be known as “cave raiders.”

In Oosu, the town at the edge of the Abyss, there lives a little orphan named Rico, who dreams of becoming a cave raider as great as her mother was and solving the great mystery of the pit. One day while exploring the murky depths, she stumbles upon a little boy, who turns out to be a robot…
