Originally developed as a Nintendo DS game back in 2007 in Japan and seeing mobile adaptations in the years that followed, the Final Remix version of The World Ends With You RPG arrived for the Nintendo Switch in 2018. As part of the spring 2021 season, Funimation handled the simulcast and they brought out the dub in September 2021. The series is now getting some new distribution overseas as Madman Entertainment has scheduled plans for a September 7th, 2022 debut for it. The bilingual set will be a two-disc release that has all twelve episodes priced at $64.95. It’ll include the promos along with clean theme song sequences as extras. A formal solicitation will come for it later with additional details.
The series saw Kazuya Ichikawa direct it with Midori Gotou handling the scripts at Sanzigen. It’s worth noting as well that Takeharu Ishimoto composed the music for it, having done the game music. DOMERICA and Shin-Ei Animation handled the production. Tetsuya Nomura and Gen Kobayashi are credited for the character designs.
The Japanese cast includes Kouki Uchiyama as Neku, Anna Hachimine as Shiki, Subaru Kimura as Beat, Ayana Taketatsu as Rhyme, and Ryouhei Kimura as Joshua.
The dub has Kyle Phillips set as the ADR director for it with Jessica Sluys handling the scripts from the prep by James Baker and supervision by Bonny Clinkenbeard. The English cast includes Ben Balmaceda as Neku, Morgan Lauré as Shiki, Van Barr Jr. as Beat, Dani Chambers as Rhyme, Drew Breedlove as Futoshi, Brandon Potter as Hanekoma, Anthony DiMascio as Higashizawa, Andrew Kishino as Kariya, Christopher Wehkamp as Kitaniji, Marisa Duran as Konishi, Brent Mukai as Minamimoto, and Jessica Peterson as Yashiro.
The series features “Twister -Animation OP ver.-” by Takeharu Ishimoto as the opening and “Carpe Diem” by ASCA as the closing theme.
