It was way back in July 2019 that we had first heard the real talk about what was coming from Marvel Studios as it was digging into phase four. At the time, Kevin Feige of Marvel Studios revealed that a Fantastic Four reboot is on the horizon and that things are coming along with three other projects beyond 2021 with Guardians of the Galaxy 3, Captain Marvel 2, Black Panther 2, and Mutants, which we presume will be their relaunch of the X-Men franchise. We’ve seen a lot of changes since 2019 with how things are unfolding for a lot of reasons.
But one of the other titles that they had announced then was bringing Blade into the MCU. Clearly, the original trilogy from the 90s by Wesley Snipes has a huge amount of fans but that project is considered its own self-contained thing and not part of the MCU. The new Blade film was announced with the excellent news that Mahershala Ali will be playing the title character.
Now, the folks at Deadline have reported on some new casting news that’s definitely interesting to see as this project gets fleshed out. Aaron Pierre has joined the production with no role associated with him at the moment, but there’s definitely a lot of open possibility as the property plays in an area largely untapped by the mainline MCU. Pierre is no stranger to the Disney family as he voices Mufasa in The Lion King with its live-action prequel.
Marvel Studios announced last summer Bassam Tariq for the director. Tariq’s gotten the most attention recently for his work on Mogul Mowgli that starred Riz Ahmed. Stacy Osei-Kuffour is set to write the screenplay for this project. Stacy Osei-Kuffour is working on the screenplay and the previous casting includes Mahershala Ali and Delroy Lindo.
