With the Saiyuki Reload Blast series out way back in 2018, and the Burial project as well, it’s been quiet when it comes to the anime side of Kazuya Minekura’s property that we’ve seemingly covered for over two decades so far. We learned in January of this year that we’re going to be seeing Saiyuki Reload -ZEROIN- which will adapt the “Even a Worm” arc of the manga.
With it making a January 6th, 2022 premiere, a new TV spot was put out by Ichijinsha who publishes the manga as a supporting piece to draw fans to the show but also to the manga itself. We’ve had five promos previously that showcase the main cast members and now this one looks at the Hazle and sets up for the Saiyuki FESTA2022 that’s coming up this spring in Japan. Sentai Filmworks recently announced their acquisition of the show which will be a part of the winter 2022 season on HIDIVE. A home video release will be produced by them in the future as well with all that to be determined later. The series will be available to audiences in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Latin America, Spain, Portugal, Turkey, Scandinavia, and the Netherlands.
Misato Takada is handling the directorial duties here working from the scripts overseen by Michiko Yokoto and Aya Matsui. Noriko Ogura is handling the character designs with LIDEN FILMS producing the animation.
The main Japanese cast includes Toshihiko Seki as Genjo Sanzo, Souichiro Hoshi as Son Goku, Hiroaki Hirata as Sha Gojyo, and Akira Ishida as Cho Hakkai. The new cast includes Kouichi Toochika as Hazel Grouse, Rikiya Koyama as Gatti “Gat” Nenehawk, and Houchu Ohtsuka as Ni Jianyi.
The opening theme song for this will be “Kamino Hotokemo” as performed by GRANRODEO while Shugo Nakamura will perform the ending theme song “Ruten” for it.
This incarnation of the property kicked off in 2009 with Kazuya Minekura working at it through her health issues.
