A new anime project from the folks at David Production arrived on August 27th, 2021 in Japan with an adaptation of Sachiko Kashiwaba’s Misaki no Mayoiga. Now, the film is being scheduled for a February 2nd, 2022 release on DVD at 4,800 yen and Blu-ray at 5,800 yen. A limited-edition Blu-ray is also coming at 8,000 yen. The regular editions come with a booklet and the promos and trailers while the limited edition has yet to be detailed.

It was directed by Shinya Kawatsura based on the screenplay by Reiko Yoshida. Kamogawa is on board with the character designs and that Yuri Miyauchi is handling the composition for the music for the film.

The Japanese cast includes Mana Ashida as the lead, Yui, while the Kappa of Kozuchigawa will be played by Takuya Tasso, the Iwate prefecture governor.

The original novel was released in 2015 and the anime adaptation is part of the larger series of projects to promote the region after the 2011 earthquake and tsunami event.

Plot Concept: The story centers around a traditional Japanese house named “Mayoiga” (named after the Japanese folkloric concept of an abandoned yet well-kept home) from where one can see the sea and feel the touch of warmth and nostalgia. Here, a 17-year-old girl who is trying to find her place in the world begins a new life with people completely unrelated to her.
