Crunchyroll Sets ‘The Faraway Paladin’ Anime Dub Cast & Premiere

Good news for fans of the light novel series The Faraway Paladin as was slotted for an anime adaptation. The series got underway with an October 9th, 2021 debut where the folks at Crunchyroll are streaming it as part of their fall season lineup. Now, the Crunchyroll folks are getting things in order for the English-language dub of it. The show is set for a November 27th, 2021 debut where it’ll be directed by David Walsh.

The English cast includes:

  • Erica Mendez as Will
  • Kirk Thornton as Gus
  • Bill Butts as Blood
  • Veronica Taylor as Mary

The adaptation has Yuu Nobuta directing it based on the scripts overseen by Tatsuya Takahashi. Koji Haneda is handling the character designs with Children’s Playground Entertainment handling the production.

The Japanese cast includes Maki Kawase as Will, Katsuyuki Konishi as Blood, Yui Horie as Mary, Nobuo Tobita as Gus, Ayumu Murase as Menel, Aoi Yūki as Gracefeel, Hiroki Takahashi as Stagnate, Koji Yusa as Tonio, and Eri Suzuki as Robina Goodfellow.

The opening theme song is from H-el-ical// with “The Sacred Torch.” Nagi Yanagi will handlethe ending theme song “Shirushibi.”

The light novel series comes from writer Kanata Yanagino and illustrator Kususaga Rin which began in 2016. A manga adaptation began as well with it handled by Mutsumi Okuhashi and both of them are released in English by J-Novel Club.

Plot Concept: In the ruined city of the dead far from human civilization lives a single human child named Will. He is raised by three undead: Blood the heroic skeleton warrior, Mary the ladylike mummy priestess, and Gus the crotchety ghost wizard. The three of them teach the boy what they know and pour their love into him.

One day, the boy begins to wonder, “Who am I?” Will uncovers the mysteries of the undead hidden in this faraway land. He learns of the love and mercy of good gods, as well as the paranoia and madness of evil gods. And once he learns it all, the boy embarks on the path to becoming a Paladin.

“I promised you. It’s gonna take a while, but I’ll tell you everything. This is the story of the deaths of many heroes. It’s the story of how we died, and it’s the reason you grew up here.”
