With the Saiyuki Reload Blast series out way back in 2018, and the Burial project as well, it’s been quiet when it comes to the anime side of Kazuya Minekura’s property that we’ve seemingly covered for over two decades so far. We learned in January of this year that we’re going to be seeing Saiyuki Reload -ZEROIN- which will adapt the “Even a Worm” arc of the manga.
Set for a January 2022 debut, the official site has now updated to reveal that the opening theme song for this will be “Kamino Hotokemo” as performed by GRANRODEO while Shugo Nakamura will perform the ending theme song “Ruten” for it.
This project will be animated by LIDEN FILMS with staffing to be revealed.
The main Japanese cast includes Toshihiko Seki as Genjo Sanzo, Souichiro Hoshi as Son Goku, Hiroaki Hirata as Sha Gojyo, and Akira Ishida as Cho Hakkai. The new cast includes Kouichi Toochika as Hazel Grouse, Rikiya Koyama as Gatti “Gat” Nenehawk, and Houchu Ohtsuka as Ni Jianyi.
This incarnation of the property kicked off in 2009 with Kazuya Minekura working at it through her health issues.
Property Concept: Many years ago, humans and demons lived in harmony. But that unity ended when demons started attacking humans and plotted a mission to unleash Gyumao – an evil demon imprisoned for thousands of years. Now, Genjo Sanzo, a rogue priest, must team up with three demons – Sha Gojyo, Son Goku, and Cho Hakkai – and embark on a perilous journey to the west to stop these demons from resurrecting Gyumao and restore the balance between humans and demons on Earth.
