Three Years Later...

While Funimation is bringing out the Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2202 release previously, the Japanese side is gearing up for the sequel that will arrive this year. Going under the name Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2205 – A New Journey, it was originally scheduled for a fall 2020 debut but like most things from that period ended up pushed back to fall 2021.

The first of two films debuted recently in Japan and that came with the plans for the second film. That feature is set for a February 4th, 2022 debut with Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2205 – A New Journey: Stasha being its name. While we got the new key visual to the right previously, we now have a new 30-second teaser, which is what was attached to the end of the first film, just now in streaming form.

The previous season of the show was directed by Nobuyushi Habara based on the series composition by Harutoshi Fukui. Nobuteru Yuki handled the character designs with Xebec handling the animation production.

The leading Japanese cast includes Daisuke Ono as Susumu Kodai, Houko Kuwashima as Yuki Mori, and Kenichi Suzumura as Daisuke Shima while the leading English cast includes Christopher Wehkamp as Susumu Kodai, Mallorie Rodak as Yuki Mori, and Ricco Fajardo as Daisuke Shima.

Plot Concept: It’s been three years since the Yamato’s voyage to restore Earth, and since then, a lasting peace with the Gamilans has borne fruit. Due to Earth’s newly acquired technological might, humankind has begun a military expansion. However, Gatlantis, a new threat lurking far beyond our star system, will once again put humanity to the test. Responding to a mysterious plea, the Yamato and its crew must undertake one more mission for the good of their species and of the universe itself.
