Funimation Reveals ‘The Detective Is Already Dead’ Anime Dub Cast & Staff; Sets Premiere

The Monthly Comic Alive magazine previously revealed a new anime adaptation in the works with Tantei wa Mō, Shindeiru, aka The Detective Is Already Dead. The show saw a July 4th, 2021 debut for it with an hourlong special in Japan, and Funimation has been handling the streaming for it overseas. Now, Funimation is starting to dig in on the simuldub side and has revealed their plans for it with it set to debut the first episode on October 3rd, 2021.

The series has Austin Tindle and Morgan Laure as the ADR directors with Marcus Stimac as the assistant director. No scriptwriter was listed.

The English cast includes:

  • Austin Tindle as Kimizuka, Xanthe Huynh as Siesta
  • Arryn Zech as Nagisa
  • Kayleigh McKee as Bat
  • Jād Saxton as Yui

The series was directed by Manabu Kurihara with scripts by Deko Akao. Yosuke Ito was on board for the character designs with ENGI handling the animation production.

The Japanese cast includes Shin Nagai as Kimihiko Kimizuka, Saki Miyashita as Siesta, Ayana Taketatsu as Nagisa Natsunagi, Kanon Takao as Yui Saikawa, Saho Shirasu as Charlotte Arisaka Anderson, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Kōmori, Takehito Koyasu as Chameleon, Maria Naganawa as Alicia, and Mai Fuchigami as Fūbi Kase.

The light novel series from Nigoju and Umibozu began in 2019 and has four volumes out so far. A manga adaptation began in May 2020 with one volume out so far.

Plot Concept: The story focuses on Kimihiko Kimizuka, a third-year high school student and former assistant of a detective named Siesta. He made Siesta’s acquaintance three years ago, 10,000 meters above the ground in a hijacked plane. The two went on one death-defying adventure after another for three years that eventually ended with Siesta’s untimely death. Left alone, Kimihiko tries his best to reintegrate himself back into a normal life.
