Netflix had one of its bigger films as a few years ago with Bright, a project that with its big-budget was a sign of intent from them to really get into putting out big feature films on the service. Earlier this summer, we learned that Netflix is going back to the well on this one with a spin-off film done in anime called Bright: Samurai Soul. The project has Kyohei Ishiguro on board to direct. Ishiguro’s most recent work was the Children of the Whales TV series.
Netflix previously set an October 12th, 2021 premiere date for the project and has now dropped both a Japanese and English language clip for it which focuses on some solid action to it. The core cast includes Yūki Nomura as Izo, Daisuke Hirakawa as Raiden, and Shion Wakayama as Sonya and it’s now updated to reveal some additional casting with Maaya Sakamoto as Chihaya, Kenjiro Tsuda as Tōmoku, Chafurin as Tsukuyomi, Mamoru Miyano as Rōshu, and Kenichi Suzumura as Ōkubo.
The film is described as “Izo, a Ronin, and Raiden, an orc, work to bring a young elf girl and the wand she carries to the land of the elves in the north.”
The 2017 film was directed by David Ayer and written by Max Landis, the film stars Will Smith, Joel Edgerton, Noomi Rapace, Lucy Fry, Edgar Ramirez, Happy Anderson, Kenneth Choi, and Ike Barinholtz.
Original Plot Concept: In an alternate Earth where humans and fairytale creatures coexist, Human LAPD officer Daryl Ward (Will Smith) and Orc Deputy Nick Jakoby (Joel Edgerton), embark on a routine patrol night, only to discover an ancient, but powerful artifact, a magic wand, that was thought to be destroyed, and encounter a darkness that will ultimately alter the future and their world as they know it.
