We had a really good run with the anime adaptation of The Ancient Magus’ Bride previously and honestly, I don’t think most people expected more to come. Back in March 2021, the official site has revealed that the manga has got more anime being produced that will begin with an OAD that’s being called the “first part” of a new project. The plan is for three OADs to come with the 16th, 17th, and 18th volumes of the manga that began on September 10th, 2021. The following ones are set for March 10th, 2022 and September 10th, 2022. It’ll operate under the name The Ancient Magus’ Bride: The Boy From the West and the Knight of the Mountain Haze.
Now, Crunchyroll has confirmed that they’ll be streaming these OAD releases as they come out, though obviously,y the first one is already out so it’s more about the future installments. It looks like this will be made available for the first one in December 2021.
The new adaptation has original creator Kore Yamazaki writing it with Kazuaki Terasaw directing it at Studio Kafka. This is apparently a studio put together specifically for this project. Yamazaki’s story is being adapted by Aya Takaha – who worked on the previous project – along with Yoko Yonaiyama. Hirotaka Kato returns as the character designer.
The Japanese cast for this includes Hiromi Igarashi as Gabriel and Aoi Ichikawa.
Known as Mahou Tsukai no Yome in its original Japanese form, Seven Seas Entertainment acquired The Ancient Magus Bride manga back in 2014 for release. The manga series comes from Kore Yamazaki, their third professionally published work, and the first North American volume landed in May 2015. The series is currently being serialized in Monthly Comic Garden with fifteen volumes have been released so far in Japan.
Plot concept: Hatori Chise is only 16, but she has lost far more than most. With neither family nor hope, it seems all doors are closed to her. But, a chance encounter began to turn the rusted wheels of fate. In her darkest hour, a mysterious magus appears before Chitose, offering a chance she couldn’t turn down. This magus who seems closer to demon than human, will he bring her the light she desperately seeks, or drown her in ever deeper shadows?
