We learned in April 2020 that another light novel series has gotten the nod for an anime adaptation with the announcement of How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom. With a July 3rd, 2021 debut for the series, the series wrapped up its season today with its thirteen-episode and then promptly announced that a second cour will be coming in January 2022. That will feature a new opening theme song with “REAL-EYES” by Inori Minase and an ending theme song with “LIGHTS” by AIMI. Check out the teaser promo below.

Distribution for the first season was standard as Funimation handled it in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Brazil, and Mexico while AnimeLab will distribute in Australia and New Zealand and Wakanim in Scandinavian countries.

Takashi Watanabe is directing it with the scripts coming from Hiroshi Ohnogi and Go Zappa. Mai Otsuka is adapting the character designs with JC Staff handling the animation production.

The Japanese cast includes Yūsuke Kobayashi as Kazuya Souma, Inori Minase as Liscia Elfrieden, Reina Ueda as Juna Doma, Ikumi Hasegawa as Aisha Udgard, Kazuyuki Okitsu as Hakuya Kwonmin, Taiten Kusunoki as Georg Carmine, Yui Horie as Excel Walter, Jun Fukuyama as Castor Vargas, Aimi as Carla Vargas, Hisako Kanemoto as Maria Euphoria, Yui Ishikawa as Jeanne Euphoriaa, M.A.O as Roroa Amidonia, Mugihito as Albert Elfrieden, Kikuko Inoue as Elisha Elfrieden, Tetsu Inada as Gaius Amidonia, and Kenji Nojima as Julius Amidonia.

It was licensed by Seven Seas Entertainment for English release with J-Novel club back in 2017. A manga adaptation also kicked off in 2017 from Satoshi Ueda which has produced five volumes so far which J-Novel Club is releasing digitally. Plot Concept: “O, Hero!” With that cliched line, Kazuya Souma found himself summoned to another world and his adventure–did not begin. After he presents his plan to strengthen the country economically and militarily, the king cedes the throne to him and Souma finds himself saddled with ruling the nation! What’s more, he’s betrothed to the king’s daughter now…?! In order to get the country back on its feet, Souma calls the wise, the talented, and the gifted to his side. Five people gather before the newly crowned Souma. Just what are the many talents and abilities they possess…?! What path will his outlook as a realist take Souma and the people of his country down? A revolutionary transferred-to-another-world administrative fantasy series starts here!
