We learned in the fall of 2020 that an anime adaptation of the Battle in 5 Seconds After Meeting manga is in the works and then more recently was scheduled for a summer 2021 debut. The series saw a July 12th, 2021 premiere date for the simulcast and now the folks at Crunchyroll are bringing the series to YouTube. The first episode goes live now on the service – see the video below – with it being made available to audiences worldwide outside of Asia and a few countries in Africa.
The series has Meigo Naito as the chief director with Nobuyoshi Arai directing it based on the scripts by Touko Machida. Tomokatsu Nagasaku and Ikuo Yamakado are handling the character designs and Synergy SP and Vega Entertainment are handling the animation production.
The Japanese cast includes Ayumu Murase as Akira Shiroyanagi, Aimi as Yūri Amagake, Mayumi Shintani as Mion, Kazuya Nakai as Madoka Kirisaki, Yūichi Nakamura as Shin Kumagiri, Miyuri Shimabukuro as Ringo Tatara, and Akari Kitō as Yan.
The dub run of the series is set for an August 30th, 2021 premiere as directed by Michael Schneider with a cast that includes Robbie Daymond as Akira Shiroyanagi, Laura Stahl as Yuuri Amagake, and Lisa Ortiz as Mion.
Availability is set for audiences in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, and CIS
The manga comes from writer Saizo Harawata with artwork by Miyakokasiwa which began in 2015 in Ura Sunday. It’ll have fifteen volumes out as of November 2020 with over two million copies in print.

Plot Concept: A new kind of battle of abilities for a new generation is about to begin! It all started on a regular morning like any other. Akira Shiroyanagi is a high school kid who loves nothing more than konpeito candy and games. One day, he ends up in a fight due to a mysterious girl named Mion. Mion then tells the people she had gathered that they no longer officially exist in any records. They were given powers and were about to be test subjects. Akira makes up his mind to use his powers to climb up the ranks and then crush this organization. Armed with unexpected abilities and unique powers, a battle using various abilities for the new generation is about to begin!!
