What They Say
You can’t be invisible when the heroine has her eyes on you!

With the series recently picked up by Viz Media, this property from Nene Yukimori doesn’t have most of its chapters available yet but it’s an entirely accessible book as I was able to pick up this newly released chapter and just enjoy it easily enough. I had started with the previous chapter as a one-off experience to try a bunch of different titles, but when a new chapter dropped when I visited the updates, well, how could I not load up another installment of this cute, silly, and simple series? There’s a lot to like with this chapter as it takes the trip to the beach for a little part-time work to the next step, which is to have some fun.
Here, the peak shop period has ended and things have calmed down significantly, so they’re letting Nagisa’s uncle take over and run things since he’s popular among the locals and definitely has a different kind of draw. Since Shiraishi was told to bring a change of clothes before all of this, he’s thankfully ready and changes quickly to head to the beach where we see he has some real sandcastle-making skills. Amusingly, when Saki and Akina come out in their swimsuits and Akina is showing it all off, Shiraishi’sturning around and moving his hands looks comically bad but the reality is that he’s distracting himself from her by working on the sandcastle. It’s such a small and quick gag but it works so well in a light and delightful way.
Of course, Nagisa herself eventually arrives after Shiraishi suffers some teasing from Akina and she has a nice two-piece thing that’s not showy but cute enough and right for the age. The two end up playing in the water for a bit while Saki is forced into oiling up Akina and it’s a delight to just see Shiraishi and Nagisa together being simple really. Splashing water at each other, floating about, some light dialogue, but nothing too series. They’re having fun and enjoying their time together until they realize they should go back a bit closer so the others can connect with them. Of course, this sets us up for the end-chapter stinger as we see that Nagisa is facing a problem in that her top is starting to come off, which I suspect won’t be dealt with much in the next chapter and just moved past as this series has a kind of interesting innocence about it.
In Summary:
This has been a rather delightfully charming little series, though with its 16-page chapters it’s not one that gets a lot of time to really advance things. But at the same time, the page count works to its advantage to play to smaller stories and simpler stories with the characters as the focus more than anything else. The dialogue is nicely done and the interactions are a lot of fun to watch play out amongst everyone. The artwork continues to work well and they do have fun playing up Akina’s looks in contrast to both Saki and Nagisa, but it’s also all designed so that it’s clear why Nagisa really is the true person of interest here.
