2 min read
It's always time for tennis!

While 3DCG isn’t for everyone and I find it hit or miss based on the project, the 3DCG anime feature film for the Prince of Tennis could be an interesting project. Announced last December and scheduled for a September 3rd, 2021 premiere, the film has dropped a new clip that clocks in at just under three minutes and features the duet between RYoma and Sakuno which showcases a good chunk of material in montage format.

With supervision by original creator Takeshi Konomi, the project has Hiroshi Koujina directing it based on the screenplay by Takehiko Hata. The production is being worked on by Monk Sutiods, Keica, and Studio KAI.

The Japanese cast includes Junko Minagawa as Ryōma Echizen, Takashi Matsuyama as Nanjirō Echizen, Ryotaro Okiayu as Kunimitsu Tezuka, Junichi Suwabe as Keigo Atobe, Mikako Takahashi as Sakuno Ryūzaki, Romi Park as Emerald, Shunsuke Takeuchi as Boo, Tomokazu Sugita as Wolf, and Ryota Takeuchi as Foo.

Plot Concept: The world of tennis is harsh and highly competitive. Numerous schools from Japan battle it out to determine the best of the best.

Seishun Gakuen Junior High School, more commonly known as Seigaku, is one of the most prominent contestants in this battle of the finest. Their team line-up gets even stronger with the sudden arrival of a young prodigy from the West, Ryouma Echizen, who is determined to prove himself and escape the towering shadow of his legendary father. This fine addition changes the team forever.

Prince of Tennis follows the heartwarming and inspirational story of Ryouma on his quest to become one of the best tennis players the country has ever seen. He pushes himself hard so that he can one day surpass his father’s name and his own personal expectations. Alongside the rest of the Seigaku team, Ryouma fights to make his and his teammate’s dreams come true.
