Netflix Debuts ‘The Witcher: Nightmare Of The Wolf’ Anime Trailer

2 min read

With The Witcher being one of the most popular shows on the service over the last couple of years and its second season set to hit next year, Netflix knows to try and expand beyond the core when it can, hence offering up an anime feature film that was announced back in January 2020. That feature has had some attention during various presentations this summer and was recently announced for an August 23rd, 2021 debut.

Now, Netflix has dropped a new trailer for the feature-length project The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf. The producers behind the main series are producers here with Lauren Schmidt Hissrich and Beau DeMayo and they’re working with Studio Mir, which worked on Voltron: Legendary Defender.

And yes, it’s not anime under the strictest or loosest of terms as it doesn’t look like any Japanese production will be involved, but it is how Netflix is classifying it and branding it.

Studio Mir is handling the animation production.

Plot Concept: The world of The Witcher expands in this anime origin story: Before Geralt, there was his mentor Vesemir — a swashbuckling young witcher who escaped a life of poverty to slay monsters for coin. But when a strange new monster begins terrorizing a politically-fraught kingdom, Vesemir finds himself on a frightening adventure that forces him to confront the demons of his past.
