One series that’s getting some new attention is the Jubei-Chan 2: The Counterattack of Siberia Yagyu from Media Blasters. With a home video release recently being worked on and released, the series has now been brought over to the AsianCrush streaming service where it’s available in its original Japanese language with English subtitles Check it out here.
The series originally aired in 2004 and was directed by Akitaro Daichi and Shinpei Miyashita based on the series composition by Daichi. Madhouse handled the animation production.
The Japanese cast includes Erina Nakayama as Freesia Yagyu, Yui Horie as Jiyuu Nanohana / Jubei Yagyu II, Ayaka Saito as Ayunosuke Odago, Chinami Nishimura as Ozaru, Hiroki Otsu as Ryujoji Shiro, Keiji Fujiwara as Nanohana Sai, Masahito Yabe as White Tiger Nizaemon, Natsuyo Atarashi as Kozaru, Reiko Yasuhara as Tsumura Mikage, Takeshi Maeda as Kitafuro, and Yūji Ueda as Sanbonmatsu Bantaro.
The English dub was produced by The Ocean Group as Blue Water Studios and was directed by Keith A. Goddard. The cast includes Carol-Anne Day as Freesia Yagyu, Melanie Risdon as Jiyu Nanohana / Jubei-chan, Brendan Hunter as Kita Furo, Byron Close as Sai Nanohana, Jasmine Berg as Ayunosuke Odago, Jonathan Love as Bantaro Sanbonmatsu and White Tiger Nizaemon, Mike Thiessen as Kozaru, Roger Rhodes as Ozaru, and Scott Roberts as Shiro Ryujoji.
Plot Concept: Three hundred years ago, in the frigid land of Siberia, Jubei Yagyu engaged in a fierce battle with Kitaretsusai of the Northern Yagyu clan. The conflict was costly as his daughter Freesia was frozen in suspended animation. As a result of present day global warming, Freesia breaks free from her icy prison and moves to Japan as a middle school transfer student, where she befriends Jiyuu Nanohana. Little does Jiyuu know that Freesia is targeting her to acquire the coveted Lovely Eye Patch, which Freesia believes is rightfully hers.
