There’s going to be a lot of anticipation for this as a show that served as a gateway into anime for a lot of people. We learned in April 2020 that Tokyo Mew Mew is getting a new anime adaptation – and even its creators are surprised by this. We’ve had the cast previously for this planned 2022 project and now the official site has dropped a new brief promo that showcases the character designs in a clearer form while also providing a tease of the song “bitter sweet darling” by the cast. Check out the promo and new key visual below.

The series has Takahiro Natori directing it based on the scripts overseen by Yuka Yamada. Satoshi Ishino is handling the character designs with Yumeta Company and Graphinica handling the production.

The Japanese cast includes:

  • Yūki Tenma as Ichigo
  • Mirai Hinata as Mint Aizawa
  • Ryōko Jūni as Lettuce Midorikawa
  • Rian Toda as Pudding Fong
  • Momoka Ishii as Zakuro Fujiwara

The original TV series ran for 52 episodes back in 2002.

Check out the first omnibus for free on Amazon/ComiXology.

The original manga by Reiko Yohida and Mia Ikumi began in 2003 and ran for seven volumes as published by Tokyopop. Kodansha Comics has released them more recently in omnibus editions in both print and digital.

Plot Concept: UNLEASH THE FULL POWER OF MEW MEW! On her first date with the cutest boy in school, Ichigo is exposed to a mysterious ray that meshes her DNA with that of the endangered Iriomote wildcat. She soon discovers that she has developed superhuman abilities and enhanced agility. Her new powers are put to the test when she leads a team with four other girls, each endowed with special abilities of their own. Together, they must now protect the Earth from an alien menace known as Deep Blue. This omnibus edition contains volumes 1 and 2 of Tokyo Mew Mew. Includes special extras after the story!
