Running under the Vertigo imprint back in 2002 before finishing up in 2008, the series Y: The Last Man was set up at FX in 2015. The sixty-issue series from Brian K. Vaughn and Pia Guerra has gone through a couple of attempts and it finally got a series order back in February 2019 and we learned in June 202 that the linear FX network won’t be hosting it but rather their FX on Hulu branding.
Production got underway back in October 2020 after a lot of behind-the-scenes shuffling and the like and now the folks at FX have made their plans for it public. The series is set to premiere on FX on Hulu on September 13th, 2021 and now we’ve gotten our first formal teaser just for the show – some footage has shown up in generic FX on Hulu trailers, as it highlights just how much of a shift the world will go through when the event happens. Check out the spot below.
They’ve updated and confirmed their cast as well with:
- Diane Lane as Congresswoman Jennifer Brown,
- Ashley Romans as Agent 355
- Ben Schnetzer as Yorick Brown
- Olivia Thirlby as Hero Brown
- Amber Tamblyn as Kimberly Cunningham
- Marin Ireland as Nora Brady
- Diana Bang as Dr. Allison Mann
- Elliot Fletcher as Sam Jordan
- Juliana Canfield as Beth Deville
Eliza Clark is the showrunner for it and serving as one of the executive producers. The press piece on it notes that all of the episodes were directed by women and ” a significant number of female department heads, including both DPs, the production designer, costume designer, casting director, editors, stunt coordinator and more.” With the series focused on a world without men, this certainly makes a lot of sense in the design and management elements.
