What They Say:
The Digimon School Under Attack

Mimi and Palmon reach the edge of the Cloud Continent close to the Tanemon’s village where Mimi once used to reign. There, they find a Digimon school and meet Babamon, who encourages them to enroll in the trial course.

The Review:
Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
Mimi returns to the village where she ruled as queen making for a nice homecoming. Nothing stays the same as Mimi finds out pretty quickly. The village has been converted into a school focusing on the digivolution of strong, pure, and beautiful Digimon. Babamon is the principal of this magnificent school. Some of the Tanemon that served Mimi have evolved into Lalamon. It was weird that they were shadowed to hide their appearance as though it was a secret of grave importance. Babamon blocks Mimi from her usual preppy attitude that brings her down a notch. Mimi has lost her place in this village as the village is now a school.

To add insult to injury, Mimi foolishly decides to join the school on a free trial. Nothing she has faced before can prepare her for the hellish education she is about to endure. It doesn’t help that this school was built for Digimon and not humans. The human body just can’t compete with the super abilities that Digimon just naturally possesses. Palmon is getting higher marks than Mimi. But the climb makes it worth the watch as Mimi has to overcome the impossible and becomes Mimimon. It doesn’t come easily but Mimi never relents and just works even harder.

This school seems like a great place to learn but schools will always have issues. This school has a dropout issue in BanchoMamemon who digivolved to the Mega form but wasn’t satisfied that he didnt get Babamon’s approval. Babamon and BanchoMamemon get into a comedically fantastic fight. You have this old lady Digimon fighting with brooms and this little gangster trying so hard to prove he’s tough. Mimi regains her usual spunk and digivolves Palmon to Rosemon to show off their hard education and knock some sense back into BanchoMamemon.

Taichi magically appears for some unexplained reason. This episode strongly felt like it was the one that he just didn’t need to appear in. He didn’t have a purpose other than just to say that he was still around. Speaking of propose, why didn’t this episode go further into detail into explaining the purpose of the crests. Palmon gets to digivolve to her mega form without the help of the crests and the same happens to Biyomon. At this point, it would be better if the crests just disappear.

In Summary:
If it’s a Mimi-centric episode it’s guaranteed to be a great experience and this episode is no exception. Digimon Adventure has been at its best when it goes off tangent and lets the children be children and explore the Digital World. It’s been struggling with having a cohesive plot. Mimi gets her crest but there is no explanation of why she earned it or what it means.
