Japanese release details!

With the Violet Evergarden the Movie was originally planned for a January 10th, 2020 date before eventually being given a September 18th, 2020 debut, the film is continuing to now make inroads with overseas markets. While that continues to percolate, the Japanese home video release has now been set. The film was recently scheduled for an August 4th, 2021 debut where it’ll come in three editions:

  • UHD+BD LE: 11,000 yen
  • BD Reg: 8,800 yen
  • DVD Reg: 7,800 yen

Now, however, it looks like a delay has hit it. The film has now been moved back to an October 13th, 2021 release date but no changes appear to be made to how the set is put together.

Extras for the sets are pretty standard with the trailers, promos, and the stage greeting video. We also get an audio commentary. The limited-edition comes with a color booklet, cover cards, a poster visual in reduced size, and other pack-in material.

Taichi Ishidate directed the TV series and film with Akiko Takase serving as the character designer and chief animation director. Reiko Yoshida worked on the series composition for the show and the screenplay for the film.

The Japanese cast includes Takehito Koyasu as Claudia Hoggins, Daisuke Namikawa as Gilbert Bougainvillea, Aya Endou as Cattleya Baudelaire, Kouki Uchiyama as Benedict Blue, Haruka Tomatsu as Iris Canary, and Minori Chihara as Erica Brown.

The theme song for the film will be “WILL” by TRUE. For the TV series, TRUE performed the opening theme “Sincerely” for it and Chihara performed the ending theme song “Michishirube.”

The light novel came from writer Kana Akatsuki and had illustrations by Akiko Takase.

Plot Concept: “Auto Memories Doll.” It’s already been a long time since that name was first popularized. It’s a machine that Dr. Orlando created that talks in a natural voice. At first, he only made it to help out his loving wife, but before long they spread out into the world. and companies were made to lend them out. “I’m Violet Evergarden, the Auto Memories Doll who will rush to provide service anywhere you wish.“ That translucent voice comes from a robotic beautiful girl with blonde hair and blue eyes like she came out of a storybook.
