Originally serialized in Comic Kairakuten BEAST from the May 2021 installment, Love Me Hostess is a twenty-page story from creator Nicoby, who has just a couple of other works on the service. Nicoby caught my eye originally with a volleyball chapter and there’s some obvious fun there but it also has some mild yuri leanings that it doesn’t engage with but teases nicely. Another one I tried was something related to acting and enjoyed it enough to keep them on my notifications list. I still haven’t had that chapter that just demands that I follow them slavishly but part of the fun is discovering that chapter eventually and being all in.
The tale here introduces us to Hirasaka, a young man who is getting some vacation time in his own hometown, returning there for the first time in a while. Sometimes a place is different once you’re an adult and have a new view on things. Staying at the hot spring inn nearby, he’s surprised when it turns out that the owner/hostess is Hanaoka, a girl he used to know in high school. Though he doesn’t recognize her at first, the reality is that she was very different back then and when she shows him that through tackling and flipping him, it all comes flooding back in how she used to mess with him. That sets the two for a late-night drink together in his room once she settles for the evening and it’s fun just to see how these two reconnect as adults, especially since their youthful side shines through by virtue of having known each other at that time.
With the two talking for so long, it takes a cute turn with her drifting off to sleep and him trying to get her settled so she’s not asleep by the window. That in turn has her surprised and smacking him around until she realizes what happened. And then things turn softer and they end up quite intimate, realizing that there are definitely been feelings there for a long time and this moment just flowed from that. It’s pretty good in that it has some intensity at times with how they go at it – he knows how to press her up against a wall just right – and her in the proprietress outfit of traditional style definitely hits a few fetishes there. Nicoby’s artwork is great and the designs look good but it just doesn’t hit that certain sweet spot where you’re so totally caught up in the relationship that you cheer at the consummation.
In Summary
Nicoby’s still a creator that I haven’t completely fallen for yet with what they produce but they keep getting closer with the pieces that I see from them. This installment is a familiar story to be sure but it works well as both characters are nice enough and the situation is a straightforward one. The intimate moments don’t dominate as we get a balance of character material with it and the end result is a charming if predictable story.
