The second season of The Mandalorian wrapped up back in December 2020 and we learned at the time that a third season wouldn’t be here for a bit because 2021 would see The Book of Boba Fett come out.

The folks at Collider have a new unsourced but likely accurate piece up detailing what they’ve learned from their connections which indicates that the third season of The Mandalorian will start filming at the end of this year as Obi-Wan is currently filming in Los Angeles at The Volume or whatever they’re calling it these days. Andor is filming in the UK so that doesn’t impact production for either show.

What they did confirm in the report is that the Book of Boba Fett is best viewed as The Mandalorian 2.5 as it’ll have crossover with a few characters beyond Fennec Shand (who recently appeared in Bad Batch). Its primary focus is on Fett bu there are connections that will draw things together as he cements his position on Tatooine.

So, it’ll be late 2022 before we get a full third season of The Mandalorian but we may see him guesting on Book of Boba Fett before that.

The director’s list for this season includes Jon Favreau, Peyton Reed, Carl Weathers, Rick Famuyiwa, Bryce Dallas Howard, Dave Filoni, and Sam Hargrave.

Plot Concept: After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
