Christina Ricci Boards Fourth ‘Matrix’ Film

2 min read
It's time to go back to the Matrix.

We learned in late August 2019 that a fourth Matrix film was coming and that Warner Bros. which was rescheduled to April 1st, 2022 amid the pandemic but is now scheduled for a December 22nd, 2021 release. With production underway, it’s now been revealed that Christina Ricci has boarded the project in an undisclosed role. Ricci’s worked with the Wachowski’s before going back to the excellent 2008 Speed Racer feature film. Ricci has had a few film roles here and there over the past decade but hose have been mostly voice work as she’s focused primarily on TV work and has the upcoming Yellowjackets series coming out.

The film will be written and directed by Lana Wachowski with Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss reprising their roles as Neo and Trinity. Casting has also included Jada Pinkett Smith, Lambert Wilson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Jessica Henwick.

There’s been a push for this the last few years out of Warner Bros. and it’s no surprise as the original trilogy did $1.6 billion twenty years ago worldwide. The potential now, especially with Keanu Reeves even more popular in many ways, is huge. Additionally, you can see the new WarnerMedia group looking at potential ways to expand film into their streaming service as well that launches next year and I would not be surprised at some sort of TV component, or even possibly a new anime component ala Animatrix.
