Money Shot #11 Review

4 min read
It's a great concept overall and this storyline was a lot of fun when looked at in full - if you subtract the Kirk element.

A new storyline gets underway!

Creative Staff:
Story: Tim Seeley, Sara Beattie
Art: Caroline Leigh Layne
Colors: Kurt Michael Russell
Letterer: Crank!

What They Say:
With a founding member on the outs, Chris seeks a replacement and finds it in Dr. Yazaman Blanco, whose research might literally save the Earth, and whose hotness might melt the ice caps. But, when a mission to a ruined planet goes south, does she have what it takes to get the money shot?

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
With the second arc wrapping up last November, Money Shot returns to find more ways to raise money and ideas across the galaxy to save the world, one sexual encounter at a time. Tim Seeley and Sara Beattie have a good handle on the style and tone of the series and while I enjoy the way it composes itself I’m glad this issue has a collection of the “undressed” covers and pieces that show a more “explicit” version of things as well. This issue also changes things up with Caroline Leigh Layne coming on board for the artwork and her enthusiasm is an absolutely perfect match here. The diverse cast feels a little more diverse in type and body here than before, which works well, and there’s a lot of fun in the expressiveness as they get into things while also showing off some fun alien design work.

With this new storyline, Chris is putting herself back into the right mindset that they’re doing this to save the world by acquiring new technology and concepts from other worlds that are in similar straights as our own environment. To that end, she’s dealing with the loss of Bree by bringing on Dr. Yazmin Blanco, who holds her own degrees and specializes in the same kind of work. She’s also incredibly attractive and needs funding for her seaweed plan to offset the environmental crisis. Chris ends up bringing her onto the team without consulting anyone else – or trying her out – but we see that this is partially because she’s still stuck on Bree and unable to bring herself to connect physically with another human at the moment. But with Blanco as Dominant Jean, they should rake in some good coin on the streams.

The initial world they hit up here is one that could have a helpful plant and they’ve agreed to an encounter that will be filmed. Without Bree, however, there’s concern about how well things are being translated and that may be an ongoing issue. What we do get is an eager team ready to get into everything and excited to see what Yazmin will bring to the subscriber base. Amusingly, as hot as she is equals how bad she is in bed as well and ends up being a drag on things. It plays out comically enough over it and we get Chris trying to help her out, but I was just laughing at how Yazmin tries to analyze everything instead of performing. I do like that they find a way to take advantage of this so they can move forward and it’s fun to watch it unfold and to see how this new addition to the team will change things.

In Summary:
It’s been a while since we last had some Money Shot material and I’m definitely glad to be back into it. This gets us moving with the cast change that we’ve had with Bree leaving and Yazmin coming on board and it could make for an interesting shift as it moves forward. The rest of the team doesn’t get too much time here, especially on-mission, but we see some of what’s going on as the change happens and they’re certainly… interested in Yazmin! Caroline Leigh Layne is definitely an artist that’s well-suited for this kind of tale and I’m looking forward to seeing more of her artwork on this series and as she puts her own stamp on it. Money Shot is back, baby!
