‘Woodpecker Detective’s Office’ Manga Ends

Set in 1909 during Japan's Meiji era, it focuses on fictional versions of real-life poet Takuboku Ishikawa and real-life linguist Kyōsuke Kindaichi, who were acquaintances in real life.

The spring 2020 anime adaptation of Kitsutsuki Tantei-Dokoro, which translates as Woodpecker Detective’s Office, was based on the novel of the same name that came out in 1999. A manga adaptation got underway in the summer of 2020 in Young Magazine and then Monthly Young Magazine and it shipped out the first compiled volume this past February. Now, the manga by Shinya Minami has found itself coming to a close with the latest installment. The second and final compiled volume will arrive on August 19th, 2021.

Shinpei Ezaki serves as the chief director working with Tomoe Makino as the director with Taku Kishimoto handling the scripts. LIDEN FILMS will be handling the animation production and Shuichi Hara on character designs.

This series is a co-production that Crunchyroll is involved in.

The Japanese cast includes Shintarō Asanuma as Takuboku Ishikawa and Takahiro Sakurai as Kyōsuke Kindaichi as well as Kenjiro Tsuda, Rikiya Hayashi, and Hayato Furusawa. Additional casting includes Sōma Saitō as Isamu Yoshii, Yuichiro Umehara as Sakutoro Hagiwara, Kensho Ono as Taro Hirai, Makoto Furukawa as Bokusui Wakayama, Sōma Saitō as Isamu Yoshii, Yuichiro Umehara as Sakutoro Hagiwara, Kensho Ono as Taro Hirai, and Makoto Furukawa as Bokusui Wakayama.

Plot Concept: Set in 1909 during Japan’s Meiji era, it focuses on fictional versions of real-life poet Takuboku Ishikawa and real-life linguist Kyōsuke Kindaichi, who were acquaintances in real life. In the novel, Takuboku runs a private detective agency to support his family. Both begin to investigate a case of supposed ghost appearances at the Asakusa Jūnikai building, also known as the Ryōunkai.
