A new anime project is in the works from the folks at David Production with an adaptation of Sachiko Kashiwaba’s Misaki no Mayoiga. Planned for a 2021 debut, we knew previously that it was directed by Shinya Kawatsura based on the screenplay by Reiko Yoshida.
Now, a new trailer has dropped from it that has revealed an August 27th, 2021 premiere and the main cast for it along with some staff updates. It’s here that we’ve learned that Kamogawa is on board with the character designs and that Yuri Miyauchi is handling the composition for the music for the film.
The Japanese cast has two announcements with Mana Ashida as the lead, Yui, while the Kappa of Kozuchigawa will be played by Takuya Tasso, the Iwate prefecture governor.
The original novel was released in 2015 and the anime adaptation is part of the larger series of projects to promote the region after the 2011 earthquake and tsunami event.

Plot Concept: The story centers around a traditional Japanese house named “Mayoiga” (named after the Japanese folkloric concept of an abandoned yet well-kept home) from where one can see the sea and feel the touch of warmth and nostalgia. Here, a 17-year-old girl who is trying to find her place in the world begins a new life with people completely unrelated to her.
